“Webb has a master’s eye for composition and an intuitive use of color that supports the strong architectural lines he is drawn to, such as the minimalist view of the Capitol building in Jerry Brown (2013), the rusted but preternaturally solid farm truck in Actually This is Your Father’s Oldsmobile (2014), and the ghostly cabin in Habitat (2014).” Tsao Gallery/Davis Arts Center

“Smartphone pictures take a stylish turn in museum show…Webb has developed into a ‘mobile photographer’ of the highest order.” Sacramento Bee

“The pictures he shoots are of the ordinary—a road sign near a field, a pretty party dress in a shop window, a battered pickup truck parked in a lot—yet Webb’s eye for detail and color, paired with an ability to pinpoint a scene’s most mesmerizing focal point, make for a collection of images that are both seemingly routine and surreal.” Sacramento News & Review

“Very, very cool.”  KCRA

“A great eye. Your composition is blowing me away, and then you use all these different processes…Brilliant work.”   Good Day Sacramento

“DAVIS ART CENTER’S TSAO GALLERY JAN 5 – FEB 2 SATURATE YOLO
This collection of over 150 images from Davis-based visual artist Dave Webb features scenes of
Yolo County that were taken and edited via only an iPhone. “It is such a remarkable little box,”
says Webb, who used editing applications like BlurFX and CameraBag, of the mobile device.
(The app PhotoForge helped create the piece House, which is pictured and depicts a painterly
image of an abandoned farmhouse near Woodland that Webb stumbled upon while out on a
drive.) With support from the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission and Davis City Council,
which was inspired by Webb’s project to declare January “Phone Art Month,” the exhibit will
feature 60 printed photographs, as well as an electronic installation with five screens that will
rotate through the remaining images in the series.”
